Intimate Objects
In a smaller setting, the intimacy of the object itself comes into play. Ones relationship to objects can be as strong of a bond as person to person. The circumstances that surround the acquisition of the piece becomes imbedded in the work. This changes the object; it transcends its formal properties and becomes a reliquary for the memories and feelings of the moment. In addition to the sentiment, the physical interaction of an individual and a drinking vessel is one that is only matched with those we hold closest to us. The physical placement of hands and mouth on a drinking vessel builds an intimate knowledge of that piece, a knowledge that is reserved for only select individuals.
